A study group including Bill Kurtis ’66 met on June 8 in the basement of Carnegie Hall, anticipating a routine evening. Kurtis had been a radio broadcaster in his home town of Independence before starting law school and while at Washburn was on the staff of WIBW-TV. He worked there part-time while studying for the bar exam and left the study group so he could start work at 6:30 p.m. The tornado hit the campus at 7:21 p.m. while he was on duty.
